Today: How to pin a boutineer

We've seen you flounder, we've seen the flowers flop. Help is here!

It's really very easy to pin on a boutineer or corsage...

Ready

1. Hold boutineer where you would like it.

2. Pinch lapel from behind around the wrapped stem

3. From back, push pin pearl through lapel, flower, other side of lapel.
(A tip, make sure to push pin through the fattest part of the boutineer)

4. Let go and check. You can pull the lapel flat carefully.

Event Hacks- Unity Candle Disasters

Today: Unity Candle Disasters

Unity Candles

What a beautiful tradition.

I especially like it when mothers of the couple light the side candles.  It is a very touching way to incorporate your families.

The list of what can go wrong in a wedding starts with the words Unity Candles.

Veils are flammable (This isn't news to you, don't panic.)
People are nervous.
Lighters get left in the wrong place.

Fear not! We've got you covered.

#1- Have a ceremony rehearsal.

Take practice candles- because reused candles don't look like a new creation.
Actually light them- when people are nervous, it's harder than you'd think.

#2- Decide before the rehearsal how you will light them.

(decide nothing at the rehearsal btw- too many cooks!)

options:

-A pretty match box- test prior to rehearsal to make sure the match doesn't break and lights easily.
-A black long handled lighter. Test it.
- When they are seated, have moms light outside candles off of perimeter candles that were lit prior to guests seating.

#3- Have a back up lighting source nearby

-on the table hidden behind the candles or under a Bible.

#4- If something happens...

A candle blows out or doesn't light, then redo it and make a comment like
"See what a resilient couple we are!"

Smile.  Breathe.

Event Hacks- Boutineers

Event hacks.
Quick little tips to save your event and help you ...

Enjoy Your Event!

Today: Fixing the forgotten corsages & boutineers.

Oh no! There's no corsage for grandma! What to do?!

Worry not, you have a couple of options.

#1- Do not let anyone notice what you're about to do. (Especially the person who's missing flowers.) You don't want them to feel left out, like they're unimportant.

#2- Grab some scissors and goto the back of your ceremony flowers, aisle flowers, bridesmaids bouquets or centerpieces. Cut off a few flowers and filler that no one will notice.

#3- Take the same very sharp scissors and cut a small amount of ribbon (at an angle) about 6" long. Look for ceremony flowers, they often have very long ribbons.

#4- Hold them tightly together, wrap the ribbon around a couple times and tie a double knot in the front. Cut ribbon ends at an angle ~ 2" unevenly.

#5- Cut the flower stems evenly about 1 1/2" below ribbon.

#6- Hopefully you have an extra pin in that empty corsage and boutineer box.

Alternately

You can cut a mini bouquet for the missing person. It's sometimes easier and you can leave longer prettier tentrils of ribbon.

Matching
If you're missing a bout that needs to match (ie a groomsman) then steal the officiants or grandpas and give it the groomsman and make a new one for your poor loved ones stolen flowers.

If you're really cool, then your event coordinator or florist can wrap you a new bout with floral tape and present a new pretty pearl ribbon for grandma.

#7- Relax, Enjoy Your Event!
You can do what you can to take care of the forgotten, but you can only do so much. Then smile, and enjoy.

Secrets and Event Hacks- Buffet Building

Welcome to a new Monday morning series... Event hacks.
Quick little tips to save your event and help you

Enjoy Your Event!

Today: Building a gorgeous buffet!

The secret... Styrofoam blocks.

1. Place table cloth on table. (skip the skirting to save money and just order long cloths.)

2.Take large Styrofoam blocks and place them on table.  (Use a little duct tape rolled over under them to make them stay put.)

3. Place another cloth over the blocks (usually a small square or round will work well.) at a diagonal.

4. Push fabric flat to the side of the box and use pearl corsage or boutineer pins to pin it to the box to secure the fabric.

5. Now you have levels to add pretty plates, risers and flowers to.  No boring buffet here!

Secrets and Event Hacks-Tulips

Welcome to a new Monday morning series... Event hacks.
Quick little tips to save your event and help you

Enjoy Your Event!

Today: Tulips

Spring events are perfect with tulips.

Planning a spring wedding? Order lots.

They are the only flower that grows after it's cut!

Hack- To get them to stand up- add a penny to the vase a couple of days before the event

Or right when you receive them so they don't get damaged by lying on the floor.
